Welcome!

So what exactly is the UESA?

We are the Undergraduate English Students' Association, the representative student body of the Department of English at the University of Ottawa. What that means to you (assuming you are in English) is that we represent you and your interests at the departmental, faculty and university level. Any student Just Do Lit. Logoregistered in an English degree program is considered a member of the UESA, so do not be shy to contact us with any questions, concerns, or just to chat! The executive consists of a President, V.P. Finance, V.P. Academic Affairs, two V.P. Socials, two V.P. Communications, a V.P. Literary and a First Year Representative.

Another purpose of the UESA is to build a sense of community within the department by organizing a variety of social events, such as game nights, pub nights and our famous Wine & Cheese events. The UESA is also responsible for overseeing and publishing the Ottawa Arts Review, a forum for student poetry and prose. Recently the UESA has also begun sponsoring writers' circles for students to bounce off ideas for their creative writing and go through peer reviews. Also, starting this year, the UESA has a monthly literary reading series in the basement of the Royal Oak on Laurier Avenue where students can perform some of their creative work in an open mic session. The UESA is here to serve YOU and YOUR interests, so do not hesitate to make use of us. If you are unsure if what you are wondering about even falls under our juristiction, you can also ask us and we can at least point you in the right direction.

A huge part of university life is found outside of classes; this is where you meet friends for life, get involved in kinds of activities that are tonnes of fun, and even network for future career opportunities. Don't miss out on a huge portion of your university experience because you are content with just going to class and nothing else. If you have any questions about how to get involved with things that interest you, even besides our social events and our creative and literary opportunities, shoot us an e-mail and we will be overjoyed to send you to the right place. Most of you will only do your undergrad once, so be sure to make the most of it!
